The first thing you need to know about Macaw is that it is not meant for regular users. You see, Macaw is a web design tool and as such, it is meant to be used by web designers, programmers, developers, and anyone else who is involved in web development. If you fit the bill, then you need to know that Macaw is a properly good web design tool, a WYSIWYG editor that will help you create HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Macaw is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and for Apple’s Mac OS X. Macaw version 1.0 was released to the public on the 31st of March, 2014. The application is also available for purchase as a trial version that can be used for free for a period of 30 days.

To get started with the aforementioned 30-day trial you must enter your email address. After you do that you will be presented with a reminder that informs you that you’re using a trial version (said reminder will show up every time you run the Macaw web design tool). After that you will be presented with the application’s dark-themed interface that is quite good looking and fairly easy to use.

From this easy to use interface you can access lots of useful functionality: add custom text, elements, buttons; arrange things as you see fit; apply a style to multiple elements; create dynamic layouts; share assets between pages; fast prototyping; use web or system fonts; optimize the site for multiple devices; and more.

Stream is the name of the design environment used by Macaw; it is a real-time, fluid layout engine that allows you to manipulate elements just like you were using an image editor. It automatically does the heavy calculating and places elements as a seasoned developer would.

Alchemy is the name of the sophisticated design-to-code engine used by Macaw; it converts design into usable HTML and CSS.

As mentioned above, Macaw is free to use for a trial period of 30 days. When the trial period expires, you will no longer be able to save or publish projects.

Beautiful interface, fluid layout engine and sophisticated design-to-code engine, the ease of use of an image editor, powerful web design capabilities – Macaw has them all!

Pros

Macaw is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and for Apple’s Mac OS X. Macaw has a dark-themed interface that is quite good looking and fairly easy to use. Macaw is a powerful web design tool with lots of features to offer.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial, nag screen, the options to save or publish projects are disabled once the trial period expires.
